Con l'aiuto delle milizie sciite sostenute dall'Iran, l'esercito iracheno è riuscito a liberare Tikrit dall'ISIS.

La città natale di Saddam Hussein, situata a 130 km dalla capitale Bagdhad, era divenuta nei mesi precedenti una roccaforte dei terroristi.
